Dawn makes everything beautiful.  The rising sun bursting through the sky touches the common scene and transforms it into something splendid and beautiful.

The joy of Jesus is like the dawn.  It rises to brighten and warm the most common life and transform that life into something splendid and beautiful.

The reflection of the rising sun upon the most desolate scene is beautiful to behold.  The joy of the risen Christ, as it is reflected in the life of the lowliest believer, is a praise to heaven.

Jesus wants His children to have joy.  He told us how we could be filled with joy.

“If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.  These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.  This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you John 15:10-12.

We must keep His commandments if we want joy.  And what particular commandment does He connect with this promise?  “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”  Our measure of joy is governed by our measure of obedience to God, and our love for each other.

Jesus also invited us to “…ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” John 16:24.  Turning to Jesus in our time of need and trusting confidently in His goodness will bring us joy.

You may have had great sorrow and wonder if the rising sun will ever warm your soul again.  God has good news for you.

“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” Psalm 30:5.

Would it surprise you to discover that joy and sorrow are very often linked in God’s Word?  It is almost as if sorrow digs the well and joy is the sweet water that fills it.

In the time of sorrow we can be so occupied with our weeping and peering into the darkness that we do not notice our back is to the dawn.  Turn around.  Put your faith in God’s Word.  Cling to every precious promise until the light breaks through.

There is great strength in joy.  When God restored His people to their own land, after many years of captivity, “Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength” Nehemiah 8:10.  It was the joy of the Lord that strengthened them to rebuild their wasted cities.  Joy strengthens your hands as well as your heart.

The very kingdom of God is righteousness, and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17).  This is the kingdom Jesus Christ has come to establish in you by the power of His Holy Spirit.

On the Day of Pentecost this kingdom was established among men.  The risen Christ poured His Spirit into the life of the waiting believers.  He had been with them and ministered to them for three and one half years.  Now He would dwell in them forever.

Has Jesus established His Kingdom within you?  Do you have the joy of His presence?  Be obedient to His Word.  Be filled with His Spirit!

Jesus gives you joy in this life and even greater joy awaits you at His appearing.  “…in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore”  Psalms 16:11.

What a beautiful dawn…what a glorious day!  Jesus is the joy of living!
