          Everything is changing.  If I can see it, touch it with my hands, hear, taste or smell it, it is changing.  Nothing in this world goes unchanged.  When men want to build a building or carve a monument that will last from generation to generation they select the finest stone for building material.  Stone changes very slowly.  A building of stone will outlive its builder.

           This is why Jesus Christ is sometimes called our rock.  He is a rock that never changes.  He is a large rock.  We can build on Him.

           Jesus told this story to His friends.  Two men were building their houses.  One man built his house upon a rock.  The storms came and the wind and rain beat upon the house.  Finally the floods rose, but the house on the rock stood firm and safe.  The other man built his house upon the sand.  When the storm came his house could not stand.  It was destroyed because the sand provided no foundation and was easily washed away.

          Jesus said, “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock” Matthew 7:24. 

          Christ’s words are true and unchanging.  Hearing them is not enough, but as we begin to obey them they become a solid foundation for a life that cannot be destroyed.   

          Let us examine the unchanging rock, Christ Jesus.

 His Love Never Changes!

           “The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee” Jeremiah 31:3.

           And again we read, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?…Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” Romans 8:35, 37.

           We can build on Christ’s love.  It is always there, always sure.

 His Word Never Changes!

          “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” Isaiah 40:8. 

          “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” Matthew 24:35.

          God’s word is true and timely in all ages and to all people.  You can build on it. 

His Power Never Changes

          God’s power to save all those who call upon Him never changes. 

          “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear” Isaiah 59:1. 

          And again we read “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them”  Hebrews 7:25.

          The sins of the whole world were dashed upon Our Rock, Christ Jesus.  In this changing world we find this unchanging promise, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” I John 1:9.

          You can build your eternal hope upon Jesus Christ.  He was the unchanging rock yesterday, He is the rock upon which I build today, and He has become the rock of my eternal salvation.  Jesus is the only rock, He will never fail to be Our Rock.  Build on Him!
