An elderly mother was crippled by a sore on her leg.  It appeared just after her last son was born.  He was now a man with children of his own.  She tried many powders and ointments and finally kept it wrapped.  One day it would look better but the next day it was worse.  Over the years it became very large and deep and painful.  Finally she could not walk without a cane.

Her daughter had said many times, “Mother, please let the doctor see your leg.  I will take you.”

The mother insisted, “He can do nothing.  I have tried everything.  It is too late for me.  I have lived with it this long.  Perhaps if I had taken care of it years ago there would be hope, but now it is too late.”

But the daughter, seeing her mother become worse, made an appointment with the doctor and persuaded her mother to go.

After careful examination the doctor found that the leg had an infection, which could be cleared up with proper medicine and good care.  Later, as the leg began to heal, the mother sat in a chair looking at her leg.  “Why didn’t I have this taken care of long ago?”  she asked.  “I suffered so much and was crippled when my children needed me most.  I thought it was an incurable disease, that I was too old, that there was no hope.”

Sin, like a terrible infection, has attached itself to every life.  The powders and ointments of our best efforts cannot cure it.  It will eat away at us and leave ugly scars in our lives.  But there is a remedy.

Jesus Christ came to take away our sins, to make us clean, to make us well.  “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” I John 1:7.

Jesus Christ lived in this world but He did not become infected by sin.  He had the power to conquer sin and by His death and resurrection He takes away the sins of those who call upon Him and trust His Word.

Yes, it is best to apply God’s cure to our lives when we are young.  Today is not too late to ask Him to wash you and make you clean.  There is no sin so filthy that He will not touch it.  There is no strong habit that He cannot change.  It is not too late.  Jesus Christ will bring healing to your life.  Ask Him today!
