Are you really living?  What a strange question, but stop and think about this for a moment.

We look at the lovely flower and realize, yes, it is alive, but it is not really alive in the sense that we know life.  The dog that lies at our feet experiences life in a greater measure than the flower, yet the dog’s life is very limited compared to our own.  It cannot share our understanding of family or education or worship.  He is alive to a small world but he is dead to the larger world, which we live in every day.  This is why we ask, “Are you really living?”

Jesus Christ once told a friend about God’s kingdom.  It is a kingdom of life that is much greater than the life we now experience.  His friend, Nicodemus, asked how he could enter into this great new life.  Jesus told him he must be born again.

“Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old?  Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born?

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” John 3:4-6.

Nicodemus had been born of the flesh, as we all have.  But if he was to enter greater life, eternal life, he must be born of the Spirit of God.  How could he be born of the Spirit of God?

God spoke through His prophet Ezekiel saying, “And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments and do them” Ezekiel 36:27.

The prophet Joel said “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh…” Joel 2:28.

God promised that His Spirit would dwell in men.  Just before Jesus ascended into heaven he told His disciples, “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” Luke 24:49.

You can read the account of the great outpouring of God’s Spirit in the Holy Bible, Acts of the Apostles, chapters one and two.

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.  And suddenly there came a  sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” Acts 2:1-4.

This Pentecostal experience is for you, for your children and for all men everywhere.  The Holy Spirit is the spirit of the ascended Christ, which dwells not only with us but also in us.  Nicodemus had Jesus Christ with him, but he was not born again until he had the spirit of Christ in him.

“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that Hath the Son hath life: and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” I John 5:11, 12.

Are you really living?  God wants to give you His life.  Ask Him for your personal Pentecost.

Christ in you—that is real life!
